
Meet Dr. Shield
Dr. Philip De Shield attained his DVM at Purdue University in 2014 in Indiana U.S.A. He returned to his home country of Belize where he practiced in a family-owned clinic founded by his late father, serving companion animals and working with wildlife groups.
In 2017 Dr. DeShield traveled to New Zealand and practiced in private and shelter settings while his wife Gliselle Marin completed her master’s degree in Conservation Biology.
In 2023 they both moved to Toronto with their two cats, Fern and Cornelius. Dr. DeShield has found a home here at Smith Veterinary Hospital while his wife completes her PhD in Biology.
Dr. De Shield has a strong interest in anesthesia and surgery, spectrum of care and promoting the human animal bond.
In his spare time, Dr. DeShield enjoys hiking, playing music, and has an interest in wildlife conservation.
